Uche Nnaji, the former Minister of Science and Technology, was taken into custody this Wednesday at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. He had just arrived on a private flight from Enugu. Reliable sources at the airport indicated that authorities intend to transfer Nnaji to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for questioning.
This detention stems from a broader ICPC inquiry regarding accusations that Nnaji fabricated his academic credentials. Previously, in mid-June, the Federal High Court in Abuja provided the commission with permission to apprehend the former minister and publicize his wanted status via media outlets after he reportedly ignored multiple summons for interrogation.
The commission informed the court that its previous attempts to ensure his cooperation in the probe were ineffective, necessitating judicial intervention. While the ICPC has not yet released a formal statement, neither Nnaji nor his legal representatives have provided a response to the current allegations.
