Former Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo is leaving his position as chief football executive of the Saudi Pro League following the expiration of his contract.

Michael Emenalo, the former Super Eagles defender and Chelsea technical director, has concluded his tenure as the chief football executive for the Saudi Pro League. The organization confirmed on Tuesday that his departure follows the natural conclusion of his contract, which began in 2023 when he took on leadership of the Player Acquisition Center of Excellence.

In an official statement, the Saudi Pro League expressed gratitude for his service and extended well wishes for his future career. Speaking with The Athletic, Emenalo characterized his time in Saudi Arabia as a pursuit of an ambitious vision that many initially doubted. He noted that his primary accomplishment was establishing the necessary frameworks and professional standards to ensure the league’s enduring development.

Emenalo expressed pride in building a solid foundation, noting that while the project is ongoing, the league is currently in an excellent position for future growth. He also shared his appreciation for the local culture and the support received from his colleagues within the football development department. Moving forward, Emenalo plans to return to Europe to spend more time with his family, including his son, Landon, who is currently training with the Chelsea academy.
