The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reported that nine political parties have obtained the necessary access codes to submit candidate information for the 2027 general elections. Malam Haruna, the National Commissioner for Voter Education and Publicity, confirmed this status on Tuesday in Abuja, noting that the tally was accurate as of the close of business on Monday.
The organizations that have retrieved their codes include the Accord Party, Action Alliance (AA), African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), National Democratic Party (NDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Haruna clarified that these parties are responsible for requesting the codes directly from the commission rather than expecting INEC to deliver them to party offices. Furthermore, any representative collecting these credentials on behalf of a party must present a formal authorization letter from that party’s leadership. The commission has released specific protocols for candidate nominations and urged all parties to comply with the established procedures.
