The Lagos State government has successfully removed all residents and business operators from a failing four-storey structure on Lagos Island. Officials intervened after determining that the building was at risk of a catastrophic collapse, which posed a significant threat to nearby properties and individuals.
The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) conducted the operation at No. 10 Dogara Street following a mandatory structural review. Inspectors identified critical failures, specifically deep cracks in main supports, exposed steel reinforcement bars, shifting foundations, and doors that had become jammed due to structural movement.
General Manager of LASBCA, Bldr. Gbaye Florence, noted that this rapid response was essential to prevent a potential tragedy. She emphasized that the state government is dedicated to public safety through strict building oversight. Furthermore, Florence urged the public to report any visible signs of structural distress, such as crumbling concrete or tilting, so the agency can take action before an accident occurs. LASBCA confirmed its commitment to regular monitoring and rigorous enforcement of safety regulations to minimize the risk of future collapses across Lagos.
