Uefa Sanctions Four Premier League Teams Over Financial Violations

Aston Villa, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, and Newcastle United face financial penalties from Uefa for violating squad-cost and earnings regulations.

Aston Villa has received a 22.5 million euro (£19.4m) fine from Uefa following a major violation of squad-cost regulations for the 2025 period. Alongside the financial penalty, the club faces limitations on registering new personnel for their upcoming Champions League campaign. A substantial 15 million euro portion of this fine remains suspended, contingent upon the club successfully lowering their squad-cost ratio throughout 2026. This penalty effectively extends a conditional sanction previously issued to the team last year.

Three additional English top-flight sides have also been penalized for failing to adhere to squad-cost requirements. Chelsea was issued a 3 million euro fine, with 1 million suspended, while Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United must pay 2.5 million euros and 3 million euros, respectively. Furthermore, Newcastle United reached an agreement regarding an overspend related to football earnings, resulting in an additional 10 million euro fine, of which 7 million is suspended provided the club meets future compliance standards.
