PDP Faction Claims IGP Silent on Petition Against Anyanwu and Mohammed After One Week

Legal counsel for a PDP faction states that IGP Tunji Disu has ignored their petition against Samuel Anyanwu and Abdulrahman Mohammed for one week.

Legal representatives for the factional Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ogbeide Associates, reported on Tuesday that Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu has failed to acknowledge their petition filed seven days ago. The petition requests a formal investigation into National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu and factional National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed.

Filed on June 23, 2026, the request centers on a November 2025 letter sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The legal team argues that this document contained false information, specifically the claim that the party’s National Working Committee had replaced Acting National Chairman Umar Iliya Damagum with Mohammed.

Anthony Ehilebo, speaking for the law firm, noted the lack of progress or communication from police authorities. The firm drew a comparison to the rapid police response regarding a viral AI-generated audio clip involving President Tinubu, which resulted in an arrest within a similar one-week timeframe. While avoiding direct accusations regarding the delay, the solicitors emphasized that their petition is supported by court rulings and official party records. They have requested an immediate update from the IGP and are prepared to pursue further legal action to compel a response if the silence continues.
