A House of Representatives ad hoc committee has officially summoned the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, to provide clarity on how the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) secured office space at the federal secretariat. This decision was reached during a public hearing in Abuja on Monday by the committee, which is tasked with investigating the operations of the PFIPC and its irregular inclusion in the national budget.
Alongside Senator Akume, several other high-ranking officials have been ordered to appear before the panel on July 21, including Minister of Finance Taiwo Oyedele, Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi, Accountant-General Dr. Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, and Budget Office Director-General Tanimu Yakubu. The inquiry follows revelations that the PFIPC, led by Adeyemi Adeniyi, was allegedly operating without proper authorization despite having Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) accounts and a listed status in the 2026 budget.
During the hearing, Head of Civil Service Didi Walson-Jack testified that her office did not authorize the PFIPC’s occupation of the federal secretariat nor did it approve its organizational structure due to insufficient documentation. Additionally, CBN Director of Banking Hamisu Abdullahi confirmed that while two accounts were opened for the council following clearance from the Accountant-General’s office in July 2025, the accounts remained inactive as no authorized signatories ever came forward. Committee Chairman Yusuf Gagdi affirmed that the legislative body is committed to uncovering the full truth behind these administrative irregularities.
