Nigerian Army Promises Disciplinary Action Following UNIOSUN Assault Allegations

The Nigerian Army Depot in Osogbo has launched an investigation into reports of soldiers assaulting UNIOSUN students and stealing property, promising to punish any personnel found guilty.

The Nigerian Army Depot in Osogbo, Osun State, has initiated a formal probe into accusations that its soldiers attacked students at Osun State University (UNIOSUN) on Wednesday.

Professor Clement Adebooye, the Vice-Chancellor of UNIOSUN, stated that military personnel invaded an off-campus hostel, where they reportedly assaulted male students, harassed female students, and stole various electronic devices. He described the conduct as inhumane and warned that the university might restrict the military’s access to institutional roads if the matter is not addressed.

Yahay Ibrahim, the spokesperson for the Army Depot, issued a statement denouncing the incident. He emphasized that such behavior contradicts the mission of the Nigerian Army, which is dedicated to protecting citizens and youth. The military leadership has pledged to uphold high standards and has officially requested that student leaders provide evidence and witness accounts to support the ongoing inquiry.

The Army has guaranteed that any individuals identified as responsible for the misconduct will be subjected to military justice. Additionally, the Commandant has expressed a willingness to engage in discussions with student union leaders to resolve the situation.
