Osun State University reports assault on students by soldiers

Osun State University has reported an assault on students by soldiers from the Army Depot, Osogbo, following a hostel raid that left dozens of students injured and their property confiscated.

Osun State University has officially filed a complaint regarding an alleged raid on its student hostels by personnel from the Army Depot in Osogbo. The incident reportedly occurred on Monday evening, involving soldiers who recently completed their training at the depot.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Clement Adebooye confirmed on Tuesday that the university has engaged military leadership after visiting the affected sites. He expressed disappointment, noting that the university previously viewed the nearby Army Depot as a source of safety rather than a source of aggression.

Initial reports suggest over 20 students were targeted. Public Relations Officer Ademola Adesoji stated that soldiers physically assaulted both male and female students and seized more than 60 mobile devices. Some students reported being stripped and subjected to inappropriate physical contact. Two individuals required medical attention, though one has since been discharged.

While the university has identified three suspects, investigations continue regarding allegations of sexual misconduct. Authorities are currently reviewing claims that a female student was raped, though these reports remain unverified as no complainant has come forward. Discussions between the university administration and the Nigerian Army are ongoing.
