US Homeland Security Chief Celebrates Iran’s World Cup Exit

US Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin has revealed he celebrated Iran’s departure from the World Cup following a tournament marked by visa restrictions and political tension.

Markwayne Mullin, the United States Secretary of Homeland Security, openly expressed his satisfaction following Iran’s elimination from the World Cup. He admitted to dancing and celebrating the news after the team failed to progress past the group stage.

Iran’s exit became certain following a 3-3 draw between Algeria and Austria on Sunday, leaving them unable to qualify despite their earlier efforts. The team’s journey through the tournament was marked by significant logistical challenges, including strict visa conditions that limited their stay in the US to game days for most of their matches. Their training base was also forced to relocate to Tijuana, Mexico, due to these travel limitations.

Coach Amir Ghalenoei criticized the treatment of his squad, claiming they were unfairly hindered and lacked sufficient preparation time compared to other nations. Captain Mehdi Taremi noted that the political friction surrounding their presence overshadowed the spirit of the tournament. In contrast, Mullin stated that his department faced more operational difficulties with the Iranian team than any other participating nation, adding that he was relieved to see them exit the competition.
