Kovacic dismisses transfer speculation, insists Manchester City value him

Despite transfer rumors and a lack of contract renewal, Mateo Kovacic insists Manchester City still considers him a vital member of the squad.

Midfielder Mateo Kovacic has clarified that he remains a key part of Manchester City’s plans, despite persistent rumors linking him to an exit this summer. The Croatian international has been connected to potential moves back to Italy with Juventus and Inter Milan, but he claims the club has assured him of his importance.

Kovacic, who is entering the final year of his contract without an extension offer, faced a difficult season last year. He was limited to only nine appearances due to recurring ankle and Achilles issues. Following a recent friendly, manager Enzo Maresca emphasized his commitment to supporting all his players, though he stopped short of making firm guarantees about the future.

Regardless, Kovacic remains confident, stating that his discussions with leadership confirmed their faith in him. He acknowledged that the onus is on the players to perform well enough to earn their spot in the starting lineup. With Rodri currently sidelined after back surgery, Kovacic views this as an opportunity to step in and contribute while competition in the midfield increases, particularly with the arrival of high-profile signing Elliot Anderson. Kovacic praised Anderson’s physicality and quality, highlighting the midfielder’s potential to grow at the Etihad Stadium. As the Premier League continues to attract elite midfield talent, Kovacic maintains that competing in such a high-caliber environment is exactly where he wants to be.
