Mahdi Shehu, a commentator on public affairs, has argued that the Nigerian government must adopt a much more aggressive stance against terrorism. He contends that armed groups do not respond to peaceful overtures and should be denied any form of amnesty or pardon.
Shehu shared these views on his X account this Monday, following the circulation of a video in which suspected bandits displayed large amounts of cash. He expressed deep annoyance at the incident, claiming that such displays humiliate Nigeria on the global stage and damage the nation’s reputation.
According to Shehu, the only effective method for neutralizing these criminals is through overwhelming military force. He maintained that these individuals lack the capacity to understand anything other than brute strength. Consequently, he firmly opposed the idea of granting amnesty, suggesting that harsh penalties—including death—are necessary to serve as a deterrent against further criminal activities.
