National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu has called on citizens to assist security forces by reporting suspicious activity immediately. Speaking in Abuja on Thursday at an event where the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons destroyed 2,819 illegal firearms, Ribadu highlighted that early intelligence is vital for stopping threats before they escalate.
Represented by Dr. Dennis Otuaro, the NSA encouraged religious and traditional leaders to actively participate in intelligence gathering. Ribadu noted that removing illicit weapons limits the operational capabilities of bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists. He described the destruction of these arms as a key element of the federal government’s strategy to curtail firearm proliferation.
Furthermore, Ribadu emphasized that President Bola Tinubu has implemented a modernized security framework that prioritizes intelligence-led operations, enhanced agency cooperation, and the disruption of criminal funding. He affirmed that this updated strategy has already yielded positive results in curbing terrorist influence and improving border protection.
