The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has disposed of 12,233.946 kilograms of illegal narcotics seized throughout Kano State and at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport. This operation was conducted by the Kano Strategic Command on Monday.
The confiscated items included cannabis, heroin, cocaine, tramadol, codeine, and methamphetamine. According to Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, the command’s media representative, these substances were recovered during intelligence-driven operations and court-sanctioned forfeitures. Command leader CN Dahiru Yahaya Lawal oversaw the destruction, which aligns with the national War Against Drug Abuse initiative.
Reports indicate that traffickers utilized complex hiding spots, including tunnels and caves in Rimin Kebe, to avoid discovery during enforcement efforts like Operations Sharar Mafaka and Ramadan Mubarak. Since the start of 2026, the command has apprehended 904 suspects and secured 54 convictions, with some individuals facing up to 15 years behind bars.
DCGN Ahmed Suleiman Ningi, representing the NDLEA Chairman, characterized the event as a clear statement against criminal networks. Meanwhile, the Kano State government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting these anti-drug measures, emphasizing the importance of combining strict law enforcement with rehabilitation efforts for residents.
