Umuoparaozara community in Abia launches security unit to tackle local crime

To combat rising crime, the Umuoparaozara community in Abia has launched a local security unit and begun intensive forest patrols to flush out criminal hideouts.

The Umuoparaozara autonomous community, located in the Olokoro area of Abia State’s Umuahia South LGA, has established a new local security team to combat criminal threats. Local youth are now conducting regular patrols through nearby forests to bolster safety, supporting the work of state and federal law enforcement.

During the launch, community leaders including Eze S.N. Ubani and Traditional Prime Minister Luke Ifeanacho noted that the initiative was a response to rising national security concerns. Represented by Innocent Onyekwere, the leadership confirmed the operation was triggered by intelligence reports suggesting that bandits and other outlaws were using local woodlands as bases. This forest clearing will now serve as a permanent fixture in the community’s security strategy.

The leadership emphasized that citizens must share the burden of protection with state authorities, noting that neighborhood watch, family awareness, and personal vigilance are vital. Residents have been advised to stay watchful and report any irregular activities to the appropriate local heads. Ifeme Celestine Chibuzo, speaking for the community youth, pledged full cooperation to ensure the land remains protected.
