Armed assailants have murdered two individuals, among them an 82-year-old man, during consecutive assaults on communities within the Irigwe Chiefdom in Plateau State’s Bassa Local Government Area. The deceased have been identified as 82-year-old Demi Duda and 19-year-old Emmanuel Chinge.
A third victim is currently undergoing medical treatment for injuries sustained during the violence. The Irigwe Youth Movement (IYM) reported these incidents on Monday, asserting that both attacks occurred within a single day. According to IYM National Publicity Secretary Joseph Chudu Yonkpa, Chinge was slain on Sunday at Nche-tahu, located in the Nkien-whie District. Subsequently, during the early hours of Monday, assailants struck Kurudu in Jebbu Miango, resulting in the death of Duda and wounding another local resident.
The youth organization voiced grave concern regarding the worsening safety conditions in the region. They noted that ongoing violence is endangering lives and devastating local agriculture, which exacerbates economic distress. The group has reached out for communal support and prayers for those impacted by the instability. Attempts to secure an official response from Plateau State Police Command spokesperson, SP Alfred Alabo, remained unsuccessful at the time of publication.
