A total of 76 commanders associated with the Islamic State West Africa Province, known as ISWAP, have turned themselves in to the Nigerian armed forces. Captain Mohammed Goni, the representative for Operation Hadin Kai, confirmed this development in an official announcement this Monday.
Goni explained that the mass surrender is the direct result of robust air and land strikes targeting extremist strongholds within the North-East region. He stated that the militants fled their positions and sought safety with military units after facing relentless pressure from operations driven by intelligence gathering.
The military confirmed that many high-ranking members are currently held in a secure facility. These individuals are presently being processed, debriefed, and vetted in accordance with standard security procedures. According to official reports, this event highlights the success of current strategies designed to break down terror infrastructure, interrupt supply chains, and limit the mobility of these groups. Furthermore, the authorities noted that the surrender of these fighters, along with their families, signifies a major decrease in the overall combat readiness and spirit of the organization.
