Political editor at Arise News, Sumner Sambo, has publicly encouraged Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), to persist within the party rather than seek an exit. Sambo shared these views during a recent appearance on the Arise Television program, Morning Show. His recommendation follows a ruling by the Federal High Court in Lokoja, which overturned a previous order requiring the Independent National Electoral Commission to grant registration status to the NDC.
Sambo questioned the recurring pattern of instability surrounding the parties Obi joins, suggesting that these disruptions often hinder the party’s ability to participate in electoral processes. He emphasized that switching political affiliations will not resolve the underlying challenges, noting that if political adversaries targeted him in the Peoples Democratic Party, the Labour Party, and the African Democratic Congress, they would likely do the same elsewhere.
The journalist argued that it is now too late for Obi to depart, suggesting he instead solidify his position, demonstrate his leadership, and confront the obstacles directly to achieve success within the current party structure.
