Dr. Maurice Vunobolki, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant for Adamawa State, asserts that political godfathers hold no sway over the state’s electoral results. He maintains that the local electorate has a consistent history of exercising independent judgment at the polls.
As preparations for the 2027 governorship race intensify, Vunobolki detailed his shift back to the PDP from the All Progressives Congress (APC). He stated that his exit from the APC was motivated by concerns regarding the potential for candidate imposition and his conviction that Adamawa residents reject influence from political patrons. Additionally, he noted that the Electoral Act regulations regarding party switching played a role in his decision.
Vunobolki highlighted past elections as evidence, noting that even prominent figures like Atiku Abubakar and Nuhu Ribadu faced defeats in Adamawa despite their political standing. He argued that these instances prove voters prioritize their own choices over the directives of powerful elites.
Expressing confidence in the PDP’s prospects, Vunobolki praised Governor Ahmadu Fintiri for providing substantial democratic advancements. He lauded the governor’s focus on security, specifically the deployment of local hunters and vigilantes to manage regional instability. Vunobolki emphasized that his own campaign avoids relying on patrons, which he believes makes him a more authentic choice for the voters of Adamawa.
