General Christopher Musa (rtd), the Minister of Defense, has requested that South-East governors and community leaders partner with the federal administration to restore regional stability. During the inaugural South-East security summit in Umuahia, held in conjunction with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement, Musa emphasized the need for collective action.
Musa highlighted the region’s immense economic potential while expressing concern over criminal activity that continues to threaten development. He reaffirmed that President Bola Tinubu is dedicated to ensuring peace across the nation, which prompted the Ministry of Defense to initiate this dialogue. The minister encouraged leaders to utilize the summit to present specific security hurdles and propose solutions for addressing youth agitation.
Abia State Governor Alex Otti expressed the firm commitment of South-East governors toward securing the region. He noted that his administration is actively working with law enforcement to deter criminal elements and called upon citizens to participate in community-based security efforts. Representatives from Imo, Anambra, Enugu, and Ebonyi states also pledged their ongoing cooperation with federal authorities to enhance state security measures.
