Haeran Ryu Climbs to Lead at Women’s PGA Championship as Ina Yoon Falters

Haeran Ryu has surged to a two-shot lead at the Women’s PGA Championship, while Ina Yoon saw her significant lead evaporate during a difficult third round in windy conditions.

Haeran Ryu has positioned herself at the top of the leaderboard at the Women’s PGA Championship, aiming for her first major title. She moved two strokes ahead of the field heading into the final day.

South Korean golfer Ina Yoon, who previously held a comfortable five-shot advantage, struggled during a challenging third round. Plagued by windy conditions and six bogeys, Yoon finished with a 75, dropping her to third place at nine under par. She admitted to feeling significant pressure, which affected her performance on the greens.

Ryu, aged 25, capitalized on her momentum with a third-round 68, bringing her to 11 under for the tournament. She credited a strong front nine, highlighted by an eagle and three birdies, for keeping her steady despite increasing winds on the back nine.

Brooke Henderson, a former champion of this event, sits in second place at 10 under after a solid three-under round. Meanwhile, world number one Nelly Korda remains in contention, trailing the leader by four shots. Korda noted that the gusty weather complicated putting throughout the day.

The tournament features a record-breaking prize purse of $13 million, with nearly $2 million going to the eventual winner. The final round will decide who claims the title in what has become a tightly contested championship.
