Ogun State Sets 2026 Completion Goal for Coastal Highway Section to Bolster Deep Sea Port

Governor Dapo Abiodun announced that the 28km Ogun section of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway will be finished by 2026, significantly advancing the state’s deep sea port and industrial ambitions.

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has confirmed that the 28-kilometre portion of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway passing through his state is on track for completion by the end of 2026. This infrastructure development is expected to serve as a catalyst for the planned Ogun Deep Sea Port and other key industrial projects along the coastline.

During the opening of the newly rebuilt Gao-Ibiade Road, the governor highlighted that the highway will provide essential connectivity for maritime growth and industrial expansion in the Ogun Waterside area. He praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the project, noting that it will improve regional trade and boost tourism.

Previously, the lack of a direct access route hindered the Deep Sea Port project, as the nearest road was the distant Sagamu-Benin Expressway. Now, with the highway positioned just a few kilometres from the shore, investor interest has surged. Alongside the port, the administration is working with the NNPC to revive the Olokola Liquefied Natural Gas initiative and advance local oil exploration.

Governor Abiodun envisions the area becoming a premier economic hub, featuring a state-of-the-art port and a naval base. He pledged that his government remains focused on upgrading infrastructure across all local government areas to rectify years of underdevelopment.
