Police Launch Operation Kosaye to Combat Crime in Lagos and Ogun

Joint police forces have launched Operation Kosaye in Lagos and Ogun states, resulting in 88 arrests, the rescue of five kidnapping victims, and the neutralization of four suspects.

Law enforcement officials in Lagos and Ogun states have apprehended 88 suspects, saved five individuals from abduction, and neutralized four criminals through the new security initiative known as Operation Kosaye. The joint effort involved extensive patrols and clearing of wilderness areas across Lagos, Ogun, and the border regions of Oyo State.

During a briefing at the Ogun Police training college in Iperu, Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni confirmed that the project was commissioned by Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu with backing from the governors of both states. The objective is to eliminate banditry and ensure residents feel secure. Specifically, police successfully rescued five people kidnapped near the Ore–Ogbere road on Thursday, killing four of their captors in the process.

Security teams systematically cleared suspected criminal hideouts and shanties in regions ranging from Ikeja and the Kara bridge to Ijebu Ode and Epe. Seized items include AK-47 rifles, pistols, pump-action guns, and various melee weapons. Commissioner Ojajuni advised the public to remain calm and report any individuals spotted with suspicious gunshot injuries to the authorities.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai emphasized that the force is dedicated to maintaining public safety. He dismissed rumors regarding bandits occupying the region, noting that all thickets have been thoroughly searched. The operation is designed to be an ongoing endeavor to maintain regional stability.
