Nigerian Army seizes drug-laden vehicle on Lagos–Calabar coastal route

Troops from the 65 Battalion intercepted a drug shipment on the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road, leading to one arrest and the subsequent transfer of the suspect to the NDLEA.

Soldiers from the 65 Battalion successfully stopped a truck carrying a significant amount of illegal narcotics on the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road. Lt-Col Musa Yahaya, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 81 Division, confirmed that the July 9, 2026, operation was based on reliable intelligence.

The truck driver was apprehended during the maneuver. Early inquiries suggest the shipment was bound for the Berger district in Lagos. Since the driver failed to identify the owner or recipient of the cargo, he was transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Lagos State Command alongside the seized substances for legal processing.

Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo, the 65 Battalion Commanding Officer, oversaw the transfer. Major-General Adebayo Babalola, the General Officer Commanding the 81 Division, praised the soldiers for their alertness. He encouraged the unit to maintain this level of commitment to prevent criminal networks from operating within the region.
