On Friday, President Donald Trump presented a design for a special edition US passport commemorating the nation’s 250th anniversary. The mock-up displays a photograph of the president with a serious expression, which he shared on Truth Social alongside the phrase, ‘Welcome, but be good!’
The featured portrait, credited to White House photographer Daniel Torok, shows Trump at his desk, superimposed over the text of the Declaration of Independence. The facing page includes a painting of the 1776 signing of the document and the label ‘United States of America 250.’ The White House labeled this design the ‘PATRIOT PASSPORT.’
Although the State Department previously noted that commemorative passports with unique art would launch on July 6, it has not yet provided comment on this specific design. Earlier in April, officials stated these documents would be obtainable only via in-person visits to a Washington office. This move marks the first instance of a sitting president appearing on US travel documentation. The administration has previously integrated Trump’s branding into various federal institutions, including adding his signature to currency and placing presidential banners on government property.
