Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), recently claimed that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is prioritizing political motives over genuine solutions to the nation’s security crisis. During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, he suggested that the public has largely abandoned hope in the current government’s commitment to addressing widespread insecurity.
Baba-Ahmed emphasized that this lack of trust is a widespread national sentiment rather than a biased perspective held by political rivals. He argued that the nation’s struggles transcend simple police reform, noting that the country is currently facing deep divisions across ethnic and geographical lines. Consequently, he advocated for fundamental institutional and constitutional changes to fix these core issues.
The PRP chairman criticized the government’s approach to security, labeling it an opportunistic and fragmented strategy. He referenced the #EndSARS movement as a clear indicator of systemic failures within law enforcement. Furthermore, he raised concerns that current policy maneuvers might be tactical positioning ahead of the 2027 elections. Rather than focusing on political gains, he urged the president to utilize existing security resources more effectively and commit to substantial, long-term reforms to ensure national stability.
