Salihu Lukman, head of the G100 political pressure group, has conceded that uniting opposition figures like Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 electoral cycle is proving to be a formidable challenge. Speaking on Arise Television, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) official explained that every key opposition candidate aspires to the presidency, making it hard to find common ground.
Lukman noted that loyalist supporters further complicate these efforts by fixating on their own preferred individuals. He warned that if these leaders persist in running as fragmented entities, they risk recreating the 2023 election results. His primary concern is that a divided front only serves to strengthen President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The G100 is currently pushing for a two-pronged strategy: negotiating a unified presidential platform and creating a cohesive governance agenda. Lukman emphasized that the movement must prioritize substantive policy solutions over merely cycling through different political leaders. Although the task is significant, he noted that the group has received positive initial feedback from various stakeholders as they work against the ticking clock of the 2027 polls.
