The Benue State Government is finalizing its 50th-anniversary commemorations this weekend, featuring a grand finale and a multi-faith thanksgiving service in Makurdi. Sir Tersoo Kula, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Hyacinth Alia, confirmed that the week-long festivities conclude this weekend.

On Saturday, June 27, 2026, the IBB Square in Makurdi will host the primary ceremony, showcasing cultural displays and parades while honoring the state’s historical milestones. This event aims to spotlight Benue’s agricultural significance and political influence within Nigeria.

Festivities proceed on Sunday, June 28, with a joint celebration marking the state’s Golden Jubilee, the third anniversary of Governor Alia’s administration, and his 60th birthday. An interdenominational service is scheduled to begin at the IBB Square at 9:00 a.m. to mark these occurrences.

Throughout his tenure, Governor Alia has focused on the Benue First agenda, centering on infrastructure, civil service reform, and economic growth. Officials have encouraged the public to join the events as the state reflects on five decades of progress and looks toward future development.
