Nigerian Army to Enlist 28,000 Troops Amid Security Upgrades

The Nigerian Army is launching a recruitment drive for 28,000 new soldiers to bolster manpower and tackle widespread security threats, alongside plans for the 2026 Army Day Celebration.

The Nigerian Army has confirmed plans to hire 28,000 new personnel following the creation of a fresh training facility in Amasiri-Edda, Ebonyi State. Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff, stated that this recruitment drive is essential for increasing manpower to combat rising national security threats.

Speaking during a press briefing to announce the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration, Major General Bamidele Alabi explained that the military is currently undergoing significant reforms. These improvements include the launch of new brigades, the acquisition of modern weaponry, and a stronger focus on troop welfare. The week-long NADCEL event serves as a platform to review operations, honor successes, and emphasize the Army’s role in maintaining national unity.

The Army continues to face diverse challenges, ranging from insurgents and kidnappers to bandits and separatist movements. Despite these difficulties, the institution remains dedicated to upholding the sovereignty of the nation under the current administration. A major component of this year’s observation is the African Land Forces Forum 2026, which will gather military leaders and industry experts to address regional security and technological advancement.

Scheduled activities for the celebration include Juma’at prayers, secondary school engagements, medical outreach, and a culminating military parade on July 6. The Army has encouraged the public and the media to foster responsible reporting and patriotic support for ongoing security efforts to ensure the stability of the country.
