Former US President Donald Trump has asserted that Iran must face accountability for the fatalities and destruction resulting from various regional conflicts, specifically mentioning Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Gaza. This statement followed Tehran’s request for reparations regarding damage allegedly inflicted by US and Israeli military actions.
Writing on Truth Social, Trump noted that Iran failed to bring up compensation during earlier diplomatic engagements. He countered by officially requesting that Iran provide payment for individuals killed or seriously injured by roadside bombs and regional violence, including the families of victims from the 2000 attack on the USS Cole and other combat-related losses. Seventeen American sailors died during the al-Qaeda assault on the USS Cole in Yemen.
Furthermore, Trump suggested that Iran should provide restitution to families of domestic protesters killed over the last half-century. He also alluded to 52,000 deaths recorded during the previous five months. Trump confirmed he has instructed his team to ensure this demand for compensation is a requirement in any upcoming negotiations with the Iranian government.
