The Nigerian Navy recently intercepted approximately 52,600 litres of crude oil suspected to be stolen in Rivers State. According to a statement issued in Abuja by Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the Director of Naval Information, the mission was executed by the NNS PATHFINDER unit under Operation DELTA SENTINEL.
Acting on specific intelligence, naval personnel stopped two wooden vessels at Ogoloma in the Okrika Local Government Area that were preparing to distribute the petroleum products. Upon inspection, officers discovered 250 sacks holding the stolen fuel. The team also confiscated equipment intended for setting up illegal refineries, effectively stopping the expansion of these criminal operations.
Captain Folorunsho noted that the seized goods were processed following standard anti-theft protocols. This successful intervention highlights the Navy’s ongoing efforts to weaken theft networks, protect national energy assets, and hinder the logistics supporting black-market fuel production. The service remains dedicated to using intelligence-led strategies to combat maritime economic crimes and ensure the security of the nation’s economy.
