Jackie, a bald eagle who achieved internet fame, passed away on Monday following several weeks of veterinary attention. The Ojai Raptor Center had been providing care for the bird after she sustained injuries from an attack by other eagles. Her recovery was further complicated by existing health concerns that led to weight loss and anaemia.
The Ojai Raptor Center noted that her health declined consistently over the final few days, even with the combined expertise of their veterinary staff and external specialists. Jackie was a prominent figure at the Big Bear Valley nest, which was monitored by a popular livestream managed by the nonprofit Friends of Big Bear Valley. Having been in the area since she hatched in 2012, Jackie and her partner, Shadow, had been a pair since 2018.
Expressing profound sadness, the Ojai Raptor Center acknowledged the thousands of global followers who supported Jackie and the team during her treatment. The center confirmed that her remains have been handed over to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. They intend to release further details regarding her medical findings and the specific treatments administered in coordination with state and federal authorities.
