NDLEA Cross River Command Reports 262 Drug Arrests in Six Months

Between January and June, the NDLEA in Cross River State apprehended 262 drug suspects and seized significant quantities of illicit substances, including cannabis and psychotropic drugs.

The Cross River State branch of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has officially reported the apprehension of 262 individuals suspected of drug-related offenses. According to State Commander John Anteyi, these arrests occurred during the first half of the year, involving 207 men and 55 women.

Authorities have successfully obtained 28 convictions, with an additional 61 cases currently moving through the court system. Furthermore, 132 matters remain active at various stages within the state high court. These enforcement actions coincide with the confiscation of 6,575 drug shipments. Specific seized items include over 6 kilograms of cannabis sativa, 166.4 kilograms of psychotropic substances, and smaller quantities of cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine.

Beyond these arrests, the agency successfully eradicated 14 hectares of cannabis cultivation in the Akamkpa Local Government Area. Commander Anteyi voiced significant alarm regarding the rise in substance abuse among young people, noting its negative influence on community safety and national progress. He emphasized that the agency stays dedicated to curbing illegal drug activity across all levels of society, from rural areas to academic environments.
