LASEMA Concludes Rescue Mission at Collapsed Lagos Building with Nine Fatalities

LASEMA has ended rescue operations at a collapsed Lagos building, confirming 27 survivors and nine deaths following a multi-agency effort in the Amuwo-Odofin area.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has wrapped up its search and rescue efforts at a two-storey building collapse site near the Alakija Bus Stop in Satellite Town. A total of 27 people were pulled from the rubble alive, while nine individuals were confirmed deceased.

The incident occurred on Thursday at approximately 12:47 p.m. in the Amuwo-Odofin area. Following reports of the collapse, Afolabi Olawale, the agency’s Head of Public Affairs, confirmed that emergency teams from Lekki and Onipanu arrived at the location within 40 minutes.

Multiple organizations participated in the recovery, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Federal Road Safety Corps. Heavy-duty equipment from LASEMA and the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) allowed teams to reach the victims. The operation officially concluded at 4:00 a.m. on Friday.

Medical professionals from LASAMBUS provided first aid to the survivors before moving them to local hospitals. Tragically, four adults were found dead upon the arrival of rescuers, while five others, including a toddler, were later recovered. The bodies have been transferred to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) to perform safety inspections on neighboring structures to enforce housing regulations. Officials are encouraging the public to report signs of structural instability by calling 112 or 767.
