An Ekiti State High Court has ordered that two men, Ibrahim Abubakar and Abdullahi Abubakar, be executed by hanging. The ruling followed their conviction for the abduction of Omoboade Adesina, a member of the National Youth Service Corps, on April 22, 2022. The case was brought forward by the Department of State Services, which successfully apprehended the individuals.
Justice Lekan Ogunmoye, the Chief Judge of Ekiti State, presided over the trial. He concluded that the evidence presented by the prosecution, specifically the results of an identification parade and detailed phone call records, proved the guilt of the two men beyond a reasonable doubt. While commending the investigation team, the judge cleared a third individual, Usman Abubakar, of all charges due to insufficient evidence linking him to the crime.
This sentencing highlights ongoing efforts by the Department of State Services to prosecute major crimes, including terrorism and kidnapping. Recent legal victories for the agency have also been documented in Sokoto and Kogi states.
