Two individuals imprisoned by Ekiti court for public nudity

A Chief Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti sentenced two men to one month in prison for appearing naked in public and causing a disturbance.

A Chief Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti has handed down a one-month jail term to 49-year-old Adeniyi Oluwole and 30-year-old Ogunlola John. The men were sentenced for walking in public without clothing and were not offered the chance to pay a fine to avoid prison.

The pair faced a single charge related to disturbing the public peace, violating Section 181 of the 2021 Ekiti State Laws. Both defendants entered a guilty plea during the proceedings. Police prosecutor Akinwale Oriyomi reported that the incident took place near the Ado-Ekiti palace at approximately 4 a.m. on July 13. Witnesses observed the men moving along the highway and palace grounds in a state of undress, which prompted their arrest.

Defense attorney Ogunleye Abiola represented the accused in court. Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun ruled that the evidence clearly supported the charges, noting that the defendants’ own admission of guilt solidified the state’s case.
