Chris Evert, an 18-time Grand Slam champion, has announced that her ovarian cancer has surfaced for a third time. The 71-year-old tennis icon, who secured three Wimbledon titles during her historic career, first received an ovarian cancer diagnosis in December 2021.
Sharing the update on Instagram, Evert explained that recent CT and PET scans confirmed the return of the illness. She has already completed a surgical procedure and is scheduled to begin chemotherapy shortly. Due to these medical circumstances, she will be absent from Wimbledon coverage this year and is temporarily pausing her broadcasting obligations to prioritize her treatment.
Evert expressed gratitude for the support received from her medical team and loved ones. While acknowledging the persistent nature of the disease, she remains committed to her recovery. Evert, who retired from professional tennis in 1989, holds one of the highest tallies of major singles titles in the women’s Open era, trailing only Serena Williams and Steffi Graf.
