The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has formally rejected President Bola Tinubu’s initiative to create state-level police forces via constitutional revision. According to the party, the current administration fails to possess the necessary public confidence or moral standing required to implement such significant changes to the nation’s security framework.
National Chairman Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed stated that the government’s credibility has reached historic lows, making it an inappropriate time for such structural shifts. The PRP expressed deep skepticism regarding the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), suggesting that the party’s poor management of existing security institutions makes their latest proposal suspect.
The PRP argues that although Nigeria requires a comprehensive review of its security apparatus to restore public faith, the current leadership is not equipped to oversee the process. Dr. Baba-Ahmed urged the public to view upcoming elections as a vital democratic milestone that must be navigated successfully before the nation commits to major constitutional overhauls like decentralized policing. The party concluded that the government should prioritize the immediate protection of citizens rather than pursuing controversial reforms.
