Omoyele Sowore, the presidential flagbearer for the African Action Congress, has publicly supported a monthly minimum wage of N500,000 for workers in Nigeria. He shared this viewpoint through a message on his X account this past Friday.
Sowore, a known advocate for human rights, urged citizens to support candidates who prioritize employee welfare rather than those who view the workforce with hostility. His statement aligns with the recent proposal from the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress.
These labor organizations introduced the N500,000 demand during the Nigeria Rights of Workers Summit, which took place in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday. Sowore praised the unions for matching the position his own party established previously. He emphasized that given current economic conditions and rising inflation, this wage is essential. He concluded by calling for unified action to ensure this target becomes reality, noting that the current national minimum wage stands at N70,000.
