Kaduna Women Journalists Denounce Fatal Mob Attack Following Child Theft Allegations

The Kaduna chapter of NAWOJ has condemned a fatal mob attack in Mararaban Jos, praising police for arresting 24 suspects while warning against the dangers of jungle justice.

The Kaduna State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has officially condemned the brutal killing of a woman by a mob in Mararaban Jos. The association characterized the violence as barbaric, inhumane, and a direct assault on the rule of law.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the group praised the Kaduna State Police Command for their efficient response, which led to the arrest and arraignment of 24 individuals implicated in the crime. NAWOJ Chairperson Sahura Jibril Maidoki and Secretary Hadiza Abdullahi Bello signed the statement, expressing deep sorrow and emphasizing that vigilantism is never a justifiable response to criminal suspicion.

The association urged the public to desist from taking matters into their own hands and instead rely on formal law enforcement channels for investigations. They highlighted that mob violence cripples the judicial system and poses a significant risk to civil order and public safety. NAWOJ further called on the judiciary to expedite the trial of the suspects to ensure accountability for the victim and her family. Finally, the group advocated for increased government efforts to educate citizens on the dangers of mob attacks and the necessity of due process.
