Cardiff skipper Belcher withdrawn from Wales summer squad

Cardiff hooker Liam Belcher has been ruled out of Wales’ summer rugby matches following a neck injury sustained in the URC play-offs.

Liam Belcher, the 30-year-old Cardiff hooker, will miss the upcoming Wales summer international series due to a neck injury. Belcher was initially selected by head coach Steve Tandy in a group featuring fellow hookers Evan Lloyd, Ryan Elias, and Dewi Lake.

The injury occurred during Cardiff’s United Rugby Championship quarter-final loss to the Stormers in late May. Despite his efforts, Belcher has not recovered in time for the summer fixtures. While a replacement has not yet been named, Dragons hookers Brodie Coghlan and Elliott Dee remain potential candidates.

Belcher joins Louie Hennessey and Keiron Assiratti as the latest squad withdrawals. Wales is scheduled to face the Barbarians on June 27 at the Allianz Stadium, followed by encounters with Fiji, Argentina, and South Africa in July.
