The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga for his recent claims regarding the nation’s economic state. During an Arise TV interview on Tuesday, Onanuga asserted that he failed to see the level of hunger that Nigerians have been reporting. Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary for the ADC, addressed the matter on Wednesday via his X account, arguing that these remarks highlight a significant disconnect between the APC-led administration and the daily struggles of citizens.
Abdullahi stated that the comments were profoundly insensitive and reflected a government detached from the people. He pointed out that with a vast majority of the population struggling to afford basic necessities like food, education, and transport, the spokesman’s minimization of the crisis is alarming. The ADC representative emphasized that the current cost-of-living emergency stems directly from the flawed economic policies implemented by the Tinubu administration.
The ADC spokesperson further noted that the daily reality for millions involves soaring food and transport costs, which are not exaggerated claims but tangible hardships. He challenged the government to stop measuring success through limited perspectives and instead engage with ordinary people in markets and workplaces. Concluding the statement, the party stressed that the government must stop making excuses and acknowledge the failure of its economic agenda, as continued dismissive rhetoric only deepens the public’s perception of an uncaring leadership.
