Soldiers from the Joint Task Force South-East Operation Udoka, working alongside allied security services, successfully engaged and killed three suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed division, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Anambra State.
This mission occurred on June 23, 2026, sparked by intelligence reports regarding armed individuals operating while disguised in military and police uniforms. Security teams tracked the suspects to the Ogboji–Ajali region of Orumba South Local Government Area.
The confrontation occurred after forces intercepted a white Toyota Sienna carrying the suspects. A heated firefight resulted in the death of three ESN operatives. A subsequent search of the vehicle and surroundings led to the seizure of a PKM machine gun, 53 rounds of ammunition, two AK-47 rifles, extra 7.62mm and 5.56mm cartridges, four improvised explosive devices, a laptop, communication equipment, and sensitive financial and identity documents.
The Nigerian Army noted that the operation highlights the success of inter-agency cooperation. Forces are currently searching for any suspects who managed to escape. Military leadership remains dedicated to neutralizing threats to regional stability and encourages citizens to continue reporting criminal activity to maintain safety.
