Lagos State Taskforce mandates removal of Alaba Rago street vendors within three days

Lagos State officials have ordered street traders along the Alaba Rago corridor to vacate their spots within 72 hours to allow for an environmental enforcement operation.

The Lagos State Taskforce has issued a 72-hour deadline for all street vendors and unauthorized occupants near the Alaba Rago section of the Mile 2–Badagry Expressway to vacate. This directive precedes a scheduled cleanup operation meant to improve environmental standards.

Taskforce Chairman Adetayo Akerele announced the ultimatum on Wednesday. He explained that this initiative is essential to upholding the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law.

Akerele noted that the current state of the area has sparked numerous complaints from commuters, locals, and international travelers regarding the rise of makeshift structures, unregulated commerce, improper waste management, and illicit businesses. He emphasized that the state government is committed to modernizing the area and eliminating environmental hazards, asserting that strict enforcement of existing laws is necessary to rectify these ongoing issues.
