The Nigerian Police Force has introduced rigorous measures to address the persistent security issues across Plateau State. Maurice Dankwambo, the Assistant Inspector General for Zone 4, announced these plans while meeting with Governor Caleb Mutfwang in Jos this Wednesday. Dankwambo stated that he arrived in the state following orders from Inspector General Olatunji Disu in response to recent security failures.
This intervention follows an attack on Sunday in the Kawel community of Bokkos Local Government Area, where gunmen killed 20 residents. Dankwambo characterized the frequent violence and loss of life as intolerable acts of cruelty. He emphasized that the police and allied security branches are collaborating to identify and prosecute those responsible for the assaults. The AIG explained that his visit is intended to audit current security shortcomings and strengthen operational tactics to provide better protection for civilians.
While Dankwambo urged local residents to cooperate with law enforcement, Governor Mutfwang pledged his administration’s full support to these efforts. The Governor noted that while his office has implemented various programs to mitigate instability, it is time for security agencies to revise their methods. Mutfwang stressed that repeating failed strategies will not produce progress, explicitly calling for a tactical shift to break the cycle of violence.
