Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has clarified that he will not influence or interfere with his successor’s administration once his term concludes in 2027. Speaking at a Hijrah 1448 luncheon in Ibadan, the governor emphasized that true leadership centers on serving the populace rather than wielding authority over future officeholders.
Makinde, currently in his final term, stressed his desire for a seamless transition. He stated that his successor should be granted the autonomy necessary to implement policies that align with the public’s expectations. By the end of his eight-year tenure, the governor intends to step away from administrative control to allow for independent leadership.
Addressing the Muslim community, the governor encouraged voters to prioritize competence, integrity, and dedication to public service when selecting candidates for the 2027 elections. He urged citizens to look past ethnic or religious affiliations, noting that the quality of governance depends on the rigorous evaluation of those seeking office.
Reflecting on his administration, Makinde committed to focusing on the consolidation of previous successes and the delivery of impactful projects for the remainder of his tenure. He expressed his gratitude to the people of Oyo State and the Muslim community for their ongoing support and collaboration, promising that his government would maintain a commitment to fairness and inclusivity until his departure.
