Colombia advanced to the World Cup Round of 32 on Tuesday following a 1-0 victory against the Democratic Republic of Congo in Guadalajara. Daniel Munoz scored the decisive goal in the 76th minute, placing Colombia at the top of Group K with six points.
The South American side controlled the match early, testing DR Congo goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi repeatedly. Although Munoz had an initial goal overturned due to offside and James Rodriguez saw his efforts saved, the team maintained pressure throughout the first half. The intensity waned after the first hydration break, providing the Congolese squad opportunities to counter.
Early in the second half, Mpasi continued his strong performance by blocking a shot from Luis Diaz. However, Munoz eventually broke the deadlock with a deflected strike. Despite trailing, DR Congo remained competitive, forcing Colombian goalkeeper Camilo Vargas into a difficult save against Nathanael Mbuku late in stoppage time.
With this win, Colombia remains two points ahead of Portugal, who recently defeated Uzbekistan 5-0. Colombia will face Portugal in Miami this Saturday, while DR Congo prepares for a crucial match against Uzbekistan in Atlanta to keep their hopes of advancing alive.
