Georgia Hunter Bell has set her sights on a total sweep of gold medals in 2026 after capturing the 800m Commonwealth Games crown in Glasgow. The English athlete clocked a time of one minute 59.51 seconds, further cementing her success after winning the 1500m world indoor title in Poland earlier this year.
Currently training alongside Olympic 800m gold medalist Keely Hodgkinson, the 32-year-old athlete plans to compete at the upcoming European Championships and the inaugural Ultimate Championships this September. Hunter Bell noted that she has already secured two gold medals this season and aims to add two more to her collection.
Having returned to athletics after a five-year hiatus during the Covid-19 pandemic, Hunter Bell is experiencing a career resurgence. Following a bronze medal in the 1500m at the Paris Olympics and a silver at last year’s World Championships, this victory marks her inaugural outdoor title. With Keely Hodgkinson opting to skip the event, Hunter Bell commanded the race, accelerating over the final 200m to win decisively.
Addressing the absence of several high-profile stars like Hodgkinson, Dina Asher-Smith, and Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Hunter Bell defended the athletes’ choices. She emphasized that health remains the priority for every competitor and explained that missing events is always a difficult necessity rather than a preference, noting that athletes are highly motivated to race whenever possible.
