Tuchel supports Bellingham following heated exchange with Queiroz

England manager Thomas Tuchel defends Jude Bellingham following a pitch-side confrontation with Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz during a scoreless draw at the World Cup.

England manager Thomas Tuchel has offered his backing to Jude Bellingham after the midfielder was involved in a heated confrontation with Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz during Tuesday’s goalless draw. The incident occurred at half-time at Boston Stadium after Bellingham pushed Jerome Opoku following a foul, leading to a tense scene as players headed toward the tunnel. Morgan Rogers stepped in to pull his teammate away from the Ghana staff.

Tuchel characterized the event as a burst of emotion, stating that Bellingham was simply standing up for himself and his teammates. While the manager acknowledged that such distractions are undesirable, he noted that tensions were resolved before the second half began. Queiroz claimed that Bellingham used offensive language, sparking the dispute. Bellingham himself dismissed the event as a consequence of a clumsy tackle and expressed respect for Queiroz’s history in the sport.

The match result keeps England at the top of Group L, with a point against Panama on Saturday enough to secure a spot in the last 32. Although Bellingham became the youngest player to earn 50 caps for England during this match, he struggled to break down Ghana’s resilient defensive setup. Despite being named player of the match, the midfielder humbly suggested that a Ghana player deserved the recognition for their defensive effort.
