Ronald Koeman resigns as Netherlands coach following World Cup exit

Ronald Koeman has resigned as Netherlands manager after their World Cup Round of 32 loss to Morocco, becoming the fourth coach to leave his post during the tournament.

Following the Netherlands’ elimination in the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Ronald Koeman has officially stepped down as head coach. The team’s exit occurred this week after a penalty shoot-out defeat against Morocco.

Koeman is now the fourth manager to depart his position during this tournament. He follows Miroslav Koubek, Steve Clarke, and Hong Myung-bo, who previously resigned from their respective roles. In his formal statement, Koeman expressed his deep disappointment, noting that he held the final responsibility for the team’s failure to reach their goals.

Other coaches have faced similar fates. Miroslav Koubek exited after Czechia finished last in Group A with only one point. Steve Clarke resigned as Scotland’s manager following their elimination, while Hong Myung-bo left his post after South Korea failed to advance past the initial group stage.
